The Sāṁkhya Kārikā

BERNARD BOUANCHAUD

The Samkhya school has a huge influence on Indian Philosophical thought and pins everything on three important principles. An unmanifested world, held in the three qualities (guna), that form ‘the cause’. A manifested world, formed of matter (prakrti), that is ‘the effect’ and a pure subject or knower (purusa). The key this philosophical approach presents is gaining knowledge of all three.

This book gives a clear translation accompanied with a commentary to aid the understanding of these teachings that are essential reflections for all serious practitioners of yoga and ayurveda. The Samkhya school provides both the framework and theory for both these popular approaches.
